Breaking Bread

I've been trying to break my bread habit, along with a few other 2013 resolutions, including eating a proper breakfast.  I've always loved my fried egg on toast, so what to do when one of those delicious ingredients is no more?  Replace with a bed of healthy greens, sliced tomatoes or rice cake!

I made this the other morning with mixed greens (with a splash of balsamic vinegar), cherry tomatoes (warmed up in the egg pan for a bit) and shaved old cheddar, with the egg and salt and pepper on top.  While it may not permanently replace my buttered bread slice, it was a pretty good alternative!

A Sunday Stroll

Well, finally got to go to my first Junction Flea this past Sunday.  It was a beautiful day, feeling more like spring than mid-Jan!!  I had a stroll around West Queen West, and as this street art proclaims, the area really has changed.  I can't believe how much new stuff there is, especially in the strip from Ossington to Dufferin.

The market was great, lot's of cool vendors, from antiques, vintage clothing, art and jewellery.  I bought a lovely necklace from the ladies of RUNE and drooled over a bag from Crown Flora Studio.  My dear friend and I sat in the balcony seats, overlooking the vendors below and conspiring about cool business ideas.  The Great Hall is a beautiful old building with amazing character and features.  Loads of light made the space a perfect backdrop for this event.  But now that I've had a taste, I can't wait for the proper outdoor market to start up again in the summer!

On the way home I did a little Toronto laneway adventuring, looking at the amazing graffiti in the neighbourhood, wish there was more stuff like this, than meaningless tagging!

Till next time...enjoy

RUNE at Junction Flea

This Sunday, January 13th, my friends from RUNE will be selling their beautiful wares at the Junction Flea Market in Toronto.  Held at the Great Hall (1087 Queen St. West), the event runs from 10 am to 5 pm.  Can't wait to check it out!

Get your ART on!

It's winter, cold and dark and Thursday night...what do you do?  Well, head to the Art Gallery of Ontario's 1st Thursdays event of course!

This is what I did this past Thursday, January 3rd, braving the wind and lingering NYE hang-over/tiredness.  At only $10 ($8 for members), this is a great new option for doing something different in Toronto.  With art, talks, music, djs, food, drinks and a great mix of people, the sold out event brought a new buzz to the AGO!  This past event had music from the amazing Basia Bulat with visual artist Stephanie Comilang, Toronto street artist Dan Bergeron, DJ Jay Ferguson from Sloan amongst many others.

We drank margaritas, ate black market churros, painted by numbers and drew landscape still lifes...couldn't really ask for a better art filled night!

The next 1st Thursday is set for February 7th, 2013 with the theme of City Scrawl: Urban Intersections.  Sure to be another great event.
